Steve Jobs and Apostle Paul

"Almost everything--all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure--these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart."
- Steve Jobs

"I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives uin me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me."
- Paul

When Steve Jobs died I kept seeing his quote everywhere. When I see it Galatians 2:20 keeps coming to mind.  I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts or reactions about the the two quotes.

  1. I agree Ben. They are both similar. Salt and light shows up in both except that Jesus' name is obviously mentioned in Paul's sentiments. That doesn't mean Mr. Jobs wasn't thinking about Jesus when he said this. I'd like to think he was.

  2. I think the two diverge somewhat significantly when Jobs suggests the route of "follow[ing] your heart" because you're going to die anyway. I can't help thinking Paul would say something more like, "die to the leading of your heart, so that you can follow the lead of Christ's heart."
