Guilt of blood

Verses like Deuteronomy 22:8 is a good subject for a compare/contrast of today's culture to early Hebrew culture.
"When you build a new house, you shall make a parapet for your roof, that you may not bring the guilt of blood upon your house, if anyone should fall from it."
For them, it was about preventing harm to others. For us today, it's more about not getting sued.

Think before you speak

I don't think many would accuse me of having the gift of gab. Still, the discipline of silence has a lot to teach me.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer's father always encouraged his children to think carefully not only about what they would say in a response, but how they would say it. As a result of this discipline, Bonhoeffer's arguments were difficult to dispute.

Proverbs 15:14

There is a difference in being silent and being disciplined in silence.
