I have a new found appreciation for the The Lord's Prayer after reading N.T. Wright's work, Lord and His Prayer.
This book was put together by Wright after a sermon series for Advent in 1995. It's a very short book packed with food for thought.
The more I read Wright's work and understand his theological perspectives, the more I appreciate how everything builds on each other. Even in this short writing, his consistency from other works is seen throughout.
As for The Lord and His Way, it really helped me to grasp a better understanding of just how that prayer really is a model for Christians. It's a prayer loaded with power and strong statements. It's no longer just "another prayer" to me. It's THE prayer.
As it was with my high school soccer team saying the prayer in a huddle prior to every game, the significance of this prayer goes unappreciated far too often when said in public gatherings.
When we say this prayer we are making declarations to God and the World. They are declarations that should not and cannot be taken lightly.
I hope you'll read it.
