I like to carry things in my pockets other than a phone. Things like keys, coins, knives, pens, stickers, chap stick, etc... I'm also a little larger than average. I'm not huge, but I carry enough weight that could be detrimental to a phone's lifespan should I sit awkwardly. I don't think spending $200 or more on a phone can justify the life expectancy of a phone in my pocket.
Would I get $30 a month out of having a data plan? I doubt it. I don't get that much worth out of my home internet usage, now that no one in our household is going to school online. I can't even bring myself to buy a new "free phone" by signing a new contract. I must be cheap. Or am I? Maybe I'm just logical. Maybe I really don't want to talk to everyone or stay in touch through the social web by being glued to my mobile device (don't worry - I still like you).
Have there been times I wish I had one? Sure. There have also been times I wish I had a bulldozer (don't ask), but I didn't buy one or even rent one.
Would it make me feel cool? Probably. Do I want to be cool? Who doesn't?
Would having a new phone cause me to worry about losing it, breaking it, forgetting it? It's likely. Would my kids break it? Would some other kid break it? If they did, how would I react? It's just a phone after all. I could take more pictures of my kids and family and talk about them more to others. Would I regret years from now, that I experienced more of being a parent from behind a phone instead of being in front of it?
Could I use the extra money for something more worthwhile, like feeding the poor or helping the orphans? Would I even do that if didn't get a phone or am I justifying not getting a new phone? Now I feel a little guilty.
Will I get a new one? I'm afraid I might.
Would you please go buy a subscription here, so I can get one? I would really appreciate the disservice it causes me.
I'm also sorry you read this.
