A Humility Shot

I'm reviewing Bill Hybels book, Descending into Greatness, where he focuses on Philippians 2 as the basis of becoming a leader.

It's a tough book to apply. It's like anticipating a shot in the arm - it's going to hurt, but you know in the end it's what you'll need to be better.

Sanders Says: Can you cheer for the person who just defeated you?

Sanders Says: Can you cheer for the person who just defeated you?: "Can you find room inside yourself to cheer for a competitor in the moment of defeat?"

This is a great question for someone who has "competition" as one of their strengths.

The Red House

Whenever I return to North Carolina to visit family, I often times will drive 20-30 minutes to checkout some of the furniture stores in Lexington, Thomasville, and High Point. I just came across a commercial for the Red House Furniture store in High Point, and they are now at the top of my list for furniture stores to visit.

The following video commercial was done by Rhett and Link.

The Title of Your Post Matters

I now have several hundred feed subscriptions in my RSS reader, and I'm not the only one. Obviously, I don't read every post, everyday. But there are four things that have helped me determine which posts I'm more likely to read on any given day.
  • Make your title count. Be specific and let me know what I am going to be reading. If it is vague and my expectations aren't met, I'm more likely to skip over the next post. Your title also needs to set up the first paragraph to get me hooked. Don't forsake the first few lines of your post.

  • Change your setting to show the entire post in a reader. At one time it may have been thought that only showing a portion of your post would bring people to your blog or Web site to learn more, but in my case - it doesn't. I usually skip to the next entry in my reader and when/if I remember, I'll go back and look at the blogs that only gave me a teaser.

  • Keep your post short. If it looks like I have to take more than 5 minutes to read it, I won't. I have hundreds of other feeds to look at. If it does have to be long, then review the first bullet point again.

  • Recent Comments. I almost always take notice of anyone's blog when the author recently commented on my blog.
This post wasn't for you. It was for me.

My Next Vote

I don't watch the news often, but when I do the political things I see disgust me.

I've said it before, but in the next election I cannot in good conscience, vote for any man or woman associated with a political party. Especially, those who are associated with the Republican and Democratic parties.

There are a lot of things that need to happen to fix our system, but two things I think would start to help are 1)remove organized factions from government and 2)institute term limits on Congress.

Please...be kind to me. I'm just recording my thoughts so I can see how far I have come, when looking back 5 years from now.
