Music That Makes You Feel Important

Sara @ 8tracks.com put together a mix of songs that "make you feel important". If I were running a marathon this year, most of these would have to go on my iPod. Each song will play when the previous one is over.

Getting Real with 37Signals

Matthew let me borrow a self published book by the team at 37Signals.com entitled Getting Real.

They did a great job of putting together useful, creative, and innovative tips for cranking out web applications and having them bound in a book. They admit that much of what is shared is not original, but in order to create effective web applications, the tips they pulled together are valuable. In fact, a lot of what is shared could be applied to almost any field if you'll read it with a different pair of glasses.

These guys are doing a lot of things right. They also have a blog for usability, if you are interested.

FindingForrest.com

For a long time I have been wanting to rename my blog. I have considered changing the name for well over a year now. I wanted something that sounded a little more personal and positive.

So, as of today I will slowly be changing everything over from PetPeeving.com to FindingForrest.com. Hopefully the PetPeeving links and feeds will continue to work without you having to change anything, but you might have to update your Reader - I'm not sure.

A big thanks goes to Hampton for the title suggestion. He suggested it many, many, moons ago and it grew on me.

Weird Ideas That Work

Robert I. Sutton's book Weird Ideas That Work is a great read if you are looking to change things up a little in the office. The book is all about staying creative and innovative. He provides 11.5 ideas that help you maintain creativity and innovation.

Sutton uses some really good examples to support each of his 11.5 ideas. If you are frustrated with the status quo of work everyday, this might be help you take a turn in a different direction.

What were you thinking Burger King?

I saw the following commercial on television for the first time last night.

I'm a little disturbed that Burger King would use this Sir Mix-a-Lot classic with girls in tight outfits shaking their square butts to sell a Sponge Bob kids meal to my 2 year old.

I'm not usually one to make mention of this kind of stuff, but it really hit me the wrong way.

UNC - 2009 NCAA Mens Basketball Champions

It's always exciting when one of your favorite teams takes home the title. It was a fun year to watch and follow the North Carolina Tarheels.

This may have been one of my favorite college teams of all time. Beyond being great players, I really respected the attitudes and demeanor of each player this year. These kids really were a class act.

Flutter vs Twitter

Here's a well done mock-umentary.

Not doing enough

If your boss, manager, supervisor, or team leader, knows everything you work on during the day, then there are two possible problems.
  1. You're not doing enough work.
  2. Your boss is an over-the-top micro manager.
Either way, both prohibit you from being innovative and stretching yourself. Don't be afraid to do more than you are asked to. You'll gain satisfaction and your boss will appreciate your efforts.
