Belmont vs. Lipscomb

Last night was a good sports night for me. I enjoyed the UNC win over Duke along with the US Mens Soccer Team defeating Mexico. However, tonight is the season's second match up between Lipscomb and Belmont in the Mens NCAA basketball from the Atlantic Sun Conference in round two of the Battle of the Boulevard. It will air on CSS for those interested.

This rivalry has existed since both teams were in the NAIA. I realize both teams won't get much attention in a national spotlight, but when it comes to Nashville sports this game has to be one of the top five annual sporting events in Music City. This game is special in a lot of ways similar to the Duke/UNC game, but you'd have to understand some history.

Anyway, being a Lipscomb grad, I'll be pulling for the Bisons. Here are two fun-facts related to Lipscomb basketball.

1. Don Myer, former coach at Lipscomb University (now at Northern State University) recently passed Bobby Knight's record for most wins as a NCAA Basketball coach. Granted, most of those wins came as Lipscomb's coach when they were NAIA.

2. Lipscomb baskeball players Phillip Hutchinson and John Pierce have both held the college basketball record for most points scored. Currently Pierce holds the record with 4,230 points.

Create your own stimulus package

Mark Cuban has laid out a challenge. Seth Godin is blogging about it. Dave Ramsey was on Good Morning America, encouraging it.

Cuban is challenging people to develop a business plan that will be profitable in 90 days. During the first 90 days he might help fund it.

Godin comments on the comments and points out how it's a shame that so many naysayers are "calling Cuban's bluff."

Ramsey says in his interview, it's the perfect time for the next Bill Gates or Michael Dell to start a business in his garage or dorm room.

I bet if you create a business plan that is profitable in 90 days, you can also figure out how to do it with out any venture capital. You're a smart person. Go do it.

Tonight is one my favorite sporting events. The Tarheels take on the Blue Devils at Cameron Indoor in Mens NCAA basketball. Although I am a UNC fan, I rarely find myself getting worked up over this game. It's simply a fun game to watch, regardless of who wins. Some might question my loyalty, but I have a lot of respect for both programs.

I like the fact these two schools are only seperated by 8 miles. That just makes it even more fun.

I also enjoy the Lipscomb / Belmont rivalry too - they're only 2 miles apart.

If I were hiring

If I were hiring for a position I'd be looking for someone who...

1. shows chemistry with the team.
2. shows ability to be competent in the job (transferable skills).
3. shows character (integrity).
4. reads - a lot.
5. has done their research.
6. challenges me.
7. has an entrepreneurial spirit.
8. doesn't want a j-o-b.

These are just a few things, but important things I've learned the last few years. I thought it might be helpful for you if you're searching for work right now.
