When you say you are going to start a new tradition, how many years do you have to do the same thing to call it a tradition? It's kind of like saying you are on a win streak when you've won 2 games. Really, you need to win at least 3 to call it a streak, right?

I definitely think you can. A few years ago, we decided we had too many meaningless ornaments we collected over the years. So we got rid of a bunch of ornaments and decided that every year we would each get a new ornament and one family ornament that truly reflected the year. We've been doing it for three years now, and it has worked great.
ReplyDeleteWhen we put the ornaments on the tree now, each one has more meaning and we can reflect on Christmas past.
For example, my first ornament when we did this was a lighthouse to reflect all the work I'd been doing with Dave Ramsey and Financial Peace.
This year, our family ornament was a Route 66 ornament to remember the trip we took over the summer.
Our kids are young (5 and 7) and I know that over the years as they have more and more ornaments to put on the tree they will have a great picture of their previous Christmases.
Only a Titans fan would consider 3 games a win streak. Colts fans consider 10 a streak.
ReplyDelete@Troy: Good point. I also suppose that some traditions die...like in the case of Hoosier basketball.
