Why not GPS?

We just returned home from visiting family that lived over 400 miles away. One of the cities we have to drive through is Knoxville, TN. Historically, our experience with driving through Knoxville has always been one delay after another. Even though they have made vast improvements, there aren't a lot of alternate routes through Knoxville.

Still, as we came through on one of the busiest travel days we came to a stand still and could see that traffic was stopped for several miles in front of us. We also noticed that just about every other car had GPS hanging in the windshield. My question is why didn't people use them to find an alternate route and get around the mess? We did. It restored our spirits and got us out of the jam.

Here's the GPS we use: Garmin nĂ¼vi 265W/265WT 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Traffic It does what we need and I really like the wide screen.

I know what you mean. I have lived in the area and worked in Knoxville for many years. No matter how many improvements are made, it never seems to get better. Sometimes I think Nashville traffic is easier to handle and navigate than Knoxville.

I had to chuckle just a little.

You link to a GPS that you use that has real time traffic updates, yet you got caught in a traffic jam.

But I do agree with your observation.
