So, at the top of the driveway, there is a blue street sign showing it's a private driveway, but it's there for emergency vehicles to be able to quickly identify the location if they ever need to (again).
I remember when the sign went up, a lot of people ended up taking a scenic drive down our driveway out of curiosity for what might be at the end. I don't guess I can blame them, since I would have wondered too.
However, when looking at the Street View on Google Maps, I noticed the Google car only made it about two thirds the way down before turning around. I wonder if he got spooked. Since my family still lives there and it's not uncommon at all for them to shoot their guns periodically throughout the day, I'd like to think that's what caused the Goog to turn back. It makes me laugh to think that might be the case.
Anyway, here is a picture from Google maps showing how far the Goog made it. So, tell me. Would you have turned around or gone to the end?
I would've gone to the end, but that's only because I grew up in a similar situation. We were 1/4 mile off the road, and people used to drive up our driveway until they figured out that it was private with nothing to see but a house. People are curious (and nosy) beings. I think what's funniest about it is that we always knew when someone was actually coming to see us because they would actually get out of the car. Otherwise, they looked, turned around, and left.
ReplyDeleteAt least Google thought you were Streetview worthy. We lived so far out in the sticks that my hometown still hasn't made it on the map.
ReplyDeleteDaytime = press on. Nighttime = heck no, turning back. I have "Dueling Banjos" playing in my head just from looking at the pic, I'm guessing the fear of a Deliverance scene would keep me on the main road.
ReplyDeleteI would have gone to the end. Some pretty cool people lived there while I was growing up. I especially loved all the cool things in the basement...like the board to drive the cars on. My brother especially loved to go there to play the drums!! Oh, and we can't forget the toys located in the cabinets in the living room! I used to look forward to going down that driveway!
ReplyDeleteIt's too late . . . to turn back now. I believe, I believe, I believe I'm fallin' in love."
