Creativity and Ability

People who have the ability to paint well impress me. Whenever I learn that someone has that talent, I'm fascinated with their work because it's something I like doing, but don't do as well as others.

However, there comes a point where I'm no longer fascinated simply by the artist's ability to paint. Over time, I come to expect the same quality from the artist. At which point the artist has to impress me with more than just ability. He has to impress me through creativity and the message behind the painting. As the bar is raised, so are my expectations.

Whether it's an artist or a job, I never cease to be amazed when I see someone's remarkable abilities for the first time. Just remember that your abilities only get you in the door to average. If you want people to continue talking about your work, you've got to be creative at what you do. There's never time to be comfortable. People are always going to expect more of you, whether you like it or not.
