1. shows chemistry with the team.
2. shows ability to be competent in the job (transferable skills).
3. shows character (integrity).
4. reads - a lot.
5. has done their research.
6. challenges me.
7. has an entrepreneurial spirit.
8. doesn't want a j-o-b.
These are just a few things, but important things I've learned the last few years. I thought it might be helpful for you if you're searching for work right now.

ReplyDeleteYou're exactly right. And this distinction will make the difference between finding the right position and not finding one at all in the current market. You have to have something more to offer than just a warm body.

ReplyDelete@Jen: It is concerning that with an incentive to create 4 million jobs in our economy, people will find themselves settling and being as unhappy as they were when they didn't have a job at all. However, I admit that some people will need to "settle" if only for a short term.
